Suihkumoottorilla

Suihkumoottorilla, often translated as jet engine, is a type of reaction engine that expels a fast-moving jet of fluid to generate thrust in accordance with Newton's third law of motion. This principle is based on expelling a mass of something at high speed in one direction, resulting in an equal and opposite force pushing the engine, and thus the vehicle it is attached to, in the other direction.

The most common form of jet engine is the gas turbine engine, which is widely used in aircraft. These engines operate by compressing air, mixing it with fuel, igniting the mixture, and then expelling the hot exhaust gases at high velocity. The process involves several stages: intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust. Various types of gas turbine engines exist, including turbojets, turbofans, turboprops, and turboshafts, each optimized for different applications and performance characteristics.

Turbojets, the earliest type, produce thrust solely from the exhaust jet. Turbofans, now dominant in commercial aviation, incorporate a large fan at the front that bypasses much of the air around the core engine, increasing efficiency and reducing noise. Turboprops use a gas turbine to drive a propeller, while turboshafts are designed to produce shaft power, typically for helicopters and industrial machinery.

Beyond aviation, jet engine principles are applied in various other fields, such as in some high-speed trains and missile propulsion systems. The development of the jet engine has revolutionized transportation and military capabilities.
