Sugunäärmeid, also known as gonads, are the primary reproductive organs in sexually reproducing organisms. In males, the testes are the primary suguneid, responsible for producing sperm and androgens, such as testosterone. In females, the ovaries are the primary suguneid, responsible for producing eggs (ova) and female sex hormones, primarily estrogen and progesterone. These hormones play a crucial role in the development of secondary sexual characteristics and the regulation of the reproductive cycle.
The development and function of suguneid are tightly regulated by hormonal signals originating from the hypothalamus
Beyond their role in producing gametes and hormones, suguneid also have other functions. For instance, they
