SubramanyaMurugan

Subramanya is a principal deity in Hinduism, widely worshipped in India and Southeast Asia. He is also known by numerous other names, including Murugan, Kartikeya, Skanda, and many more. He is considered the god of war, the commander of the celestial armies, and the son of Shiva and Parvati. His iconography often depicts him as a young, powerful warrior, typically riding a peacock and wielding a spear called the Vel.

The legends surrounding Subramanya are vast and varied, often found in ancient Hindu texts like the Puranas. One prominent myth tells of his birth as a means to defeat the demon Tarakasura, who had been granted a boon that only a seven-day-old child could kill him. This divine child, Subramanya, was born from Shiva's seed and raised by the Krittikas (a group of six celestial nymphs). He is revered for his courage, wisdom, and as a protector against evil.

Worship of Subramanya is particularly prominent in South India, especially in Tamil Nadu, where he is a major deity. Many famous temples are dedicated to him, such as the Arupadai Veedu (six abodes) which are considered his most important shrines. Festivals like Thaipusam and Skanda Shashti are significant celebrations honoring Subramanya, often involving elaborate rituals and processions. His worship is believed to bestow strength, victory, and spiritual growth.
