Subfixtures

Subfixtures are secondary lighting elements that accompany a primary fixture, either as modular add-ons or as smaller fixtures integrated within the same luminaire package. They are designed to extend illumination, improve distribution, or provide accent and task lighting without requiring additional mounting points.

Common configurations include:

- Auxiliary subfixtures on track or rail systems that can be positioned independently of the main fixture.

- Integrated subfixtures within a luminaire, where multiple light heads share a single housing or power supply.

- Remote subfixtures connected to the same control system as the main fixture, allowing coordinated or independent operation.

Control and electrical considerations:

Subfixtures can be wired to share the main fixture’s power and dimming circuit, or be independently controlled via DMX, a separate dimmer, or a dedicated control channel. Proper electrical planning is essential to balance loads, manage heat, and ensure compatibility with control systems.

Subfixtures are used in architectural, retail, museum, and hospitality settings to enhance visual focus, illuminate artwork or displays, and fill shadows around a primary light source. In residential design, they appear in kitchen coves, display shelves, and under-cabinet areas to supplement general lighting.
