Stångtält

Stångtält, also known as pole tents, are a type of tent characterized by their reliance on poles and ropes for support rather than an internal framework. These poles, typically made of aluminum or steel, are erected vertically, and the tent fabric is then draped over them. Ropes are then staked into the ground at various angles to tension the fabric and provide stability. This construction method results in a distinctive, often sweeping, canopy shape.

The advantages of stångtält include their relatively simple construction and transportability. They can be set up and dismantled with fewer components compared to frame tents. Their open interior spaces, free from internal poles, make them ideal for events like weddings, parties, and fairs where flexibility in seating and decoration is desired. The airy design also allows for good ventilation.

However, stångtält are also susceptible to wind and weather if not properly secured. The tension provided by the ropes and stakes is crucial for their structural integrity. They are often seen as a more traditional or classic tent style. Historically, similar tent structures have been used for centuries for various purposes, from military encampments to royal gatherings. Modern stångtält are available in a wide range of sizes and materials, often featuring flame-retardant fabrics for safety.
