It is also used in construction materials, such as insulation panels and building blocks, due to its low thermal conductivity and resistance to fire. Additionally, polystyrene is used in the manufacturing of various consumer products, such as toys, cutlery, and electronic components.

However, polystyrene is not biodegradable and can take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills. Its production also contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, making it an environmentally unfriendly material. As a result, there is ongoing research and development to find more sustainable alternatives to polystyrene.
