Styreenibutaadikumi (styrene-butadiene rubber, SBR) is a synthetic rubber, a copolymer of styrene and butadiene. It is one of the most widely produced synthetic rubbers globally due to its good abrasion resistance, crack resistance, and elasticity. SBR is produced through emulsion polymerization or solution polymerization. Emulsion polymerization is the more common method, yielding a random copolymer with properties that can be modified by adjusting the styrene content and polymerization temperature. Solution polymerization offers better control over polymer microstructure, leading to improved performance characteristics like better wet grip and lower rolling resistance in tire applications.

The properties of SBR can vary depending on the styrene content. Higher styrene content generally leads to a harder, stiffer material with better tensile strength and abrasion resistance, while lower styrene content results in a more flexible and elastic rubber. SBR is commonly used in the automotive industry for tire treads and sidewalls, as well as in footwear, conveyor belts, hoses, and various other industrial and consumer goods. It is often blended with natural rubber or other synthetic rubbers to achieve a desired balance of properties. While it offers good general-purpose performance, it is not typically used in applications requiring high resistance to oil, heat, or ozone, where other specialized synthetic rubbers might be preferred.
