Sträckgivare, often translated as strain gauge, is a sensor whose electrical resistance changes in proportion to the amount of strain applied to it. When a strain gauge is attached to an object, and that object is subjected to mechanical stress, it deforms, stretching or compressing the strain gauge. This deformation alters the gauge's length and cross-sectional area, which in turn affects its electrical resistance. By measuring this change in resistance, one can determine the amount of strain experienced by the object.
