Struktuurin

Struktuurin is the Finnish genitive form of the noun struktuuri, meaning structure. The concept refers to the arrangement and organization of the parts of a system and to the relationships among those parts that give rise to its overall properties and behavior.

In Finnish and many other languages, struktuuri is used across disciplines to describe how components are put together, from molecules to machines, texts and social groups. The core idea is that a system’s structure constrains and enables its function, and that changes in structure can lead to changes in performance.

Across fields, common themes include hierarchy (layers of organization), modularity (subsystems that can be independently developed), and symmetry or regularity in the arrangement of parts. Structures may be static or dynamic, robust to perturbations, and capable of adaptation through reconfiguration or growth.
