Strooiselnest

Strooiselnest, often translated as "litter nest" or "bedding nest," refers to a type of enclosure or habitat designed for small animals, particularly rodents and rabbits, that emphasizes the use of loose bedding material for nesting and exploration. Unlike solid-bottomed cages, strooiselnest setups are characterized by a deep layer of absorbent and diggable substrate. This substrate can include materials such as wood shavings, straw, hay, shredded paper, or a mixture of these.

The primary purpose of a strooiselnest is to mimic the natural burrowing and nesting behaviors of these animals. Providing a deep bedding layer allows them to dig tunnels, create burrows, and construct comfortable sleeping areas, which is crucial for their psychological well-being and physical health.
