Stolpbyggnad

Stolpbyggnad, also known as post-and-panel construction or timber framing, is an ancient building technique characterized by the use of upright posts that support horizontal beams. These posts are typically made of wood, though stone and other materials have also been employed. The spaces between the posts are then filled with other materials, such as wattle and daub, brick, stone, or even wood panels. This method allows for the creation of sturdy structures with relatively simple tools and techniques.

Historically, stolpbyggnad has been prevalent across many cultures and regions. In Europe, it formed the basis of much medieval vernacular architecture, leading to the development of elaborate half-timbered houses. The timber frame provides the structural integrity, while infill materials can vary greatly depending on local availability and climate.
