Stoats (Mustela erminea), also called ermines or short-tailed weasels, are small carnivorous mammals in the Mustelidae family. They have long, slender bodies, short legs, and a bushy tail. Their fur color changes with the seasons: in much of the northern hemisphere they are brown with a black-tipped tail in summer and turn white (ermine) in winter, while in milder regions the coat may remain brown year round; the tail tip commonly stays black throughout the year.
