Stjerneskrutrekkere, also known as Torx screwdrivers, are tools designed to drive screws with a six-point star-shaped recess. This design offers several advantages over traditional slotted or Phillips head screws. The star shape allows for greater torque to be applied without the screwdriver slipping out of the screw head, a phenomenon known as cam-out. This increased grip reduces the risk of damaging the screw head or the surrounding material.

The Torx system was invented in 1967 by Camcar Textron and was initially developed to meet the needs of the automotive industry, where the ability to apply high torque securely was crucial. The design also allows for a more compact and efficient connection compared to other screw types. Torx screws are often used in electronics, bicycles, and modern furniture assembly.

There are various sizes of Torx screwdrivers and screws, indicated by the letter "T" followed by a number, such as T10 or T25. The numbers correspond to specific measurements of the star recess. Beyond standard Torx, there are also variations like Torx Plus, which offers even greater torque capabilities, and Security Torx (also known as Torx TR or Tamper-Resistant Torx), which features a central pin in the recess that requires a specialized screwdriver to remove.
