Stikledning

Stikledning is a term used to describe the service line that connects a public utility network to a customer’s building. It covers the pipe or conduit that delivers utilities such as water, drains and sewer, gas, or district heating from the main network to the property. The stikledning is typically located underground and runs from the public infrastructure up to the building’s boundary or to a designated connection point. The exact scope can vary by utility and jurisdiction, but it generally refers to the portion between the public main and the customer’s installation.

Ownership and responsibility for stikledning are not uniform and depend on local regulations and contracts. In many cases the utility or municipality owns and maintains the section from the public main to the property boundary, while the privately owned section inside the property is the property owner’s responsibility. Some systems may be wholly municipal, others entirely private, with specific duties defined by local laws, building codes, and service agreements.

Materials and construction vary by the type of service. Water stikledning often uses ductile iron, PVC, or polyethylene; avløps- eller spillvannstikledning typically uses PVC or PE; gas stikledning may employ steel or PE pipes; district heating stikledning uses insulated pipes designed for heat transmission. All stikledninger are installed underground where possible and must be protected against damage, frost, and contamination.

Installation and maintenance require proper authorizations and compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Work on stikledning generally requires permits, skilled plumbing or utility contractors, and pressure or leak testing before commissioning. Documentation such as connection permits, as-built plans, and meter locations are typically required. Regular inspection and prompt repair of leaks or damage are important to prevent water loss, contamination, or safety hazards.
