Stikksag

Stikksag, commonly known in English as the jigsaw, is a handheld power tool used to make curved and irregular cuts in wood, plastics and thin metal. The blade moves up and down in a narrow stroke, allowing the tool to follow complex patterns and to start cuts inside a workpiece.

Construction and operation: The tool has a compact housing, a motor, a base plate for bevel cuts, and a blade clamp that accepts a variety of blades. Some models include orbital or pendulum action for faster wood cutting, variable speed for control, and a rechargeable battery in cordless versions.

Blades and materials: Blades vary in tooth geometry and material. Wood blades are common for soft and hard woods, metal blades are used for thin sheet metal, and specialized blades cut plastics. The choice of blade and feed rate determines cut quality; for internal cuts a starter hole is drilled.

Usage and safety: Stikksags are used for pattern cutting, cabinetry work and craft projects. Secure the workpiece, clamp it if needed, and keep hands away from the blade. Wear eye protection and use appropriate blades; unplug or remove the battery before changing blades. Clean and store the tool after use.

Variants and development: Modern stikksag models can be corded or cordless, with features such as variable speed, orbital action, dust extraction and tool-less blade changes. The tool is widely used in carpentry, construction and DIY projects.
