Stetind

Stetind is a prominent mountain located in Nordland county, Norway. It is renowned for its distinctive pyramidal shape and steep cliffs, making it a visually striking landmark in the Tysfjord municipality. The mountain rises to an elevation of 1,452 meters (4,764 feet) above sea level. Stetind is often referred to as the "national mountain of Norway" due to its iconic appearance and its selection as the motif for the 1998 Norwegian 1000 kroner banknote.

The mountain's unusual shape is a result of glacial erosion. Its sheer faces and the summit plateau present a significant climbing challenge. The first ascent of Stetind was made in 1910 by the Norwegian mountaineer Ferdinand Schjelderup and his companions. Today, it is a popular destination for experienced climbers, with routes ranging in difficulty. Access to the mountain typically involves a drive to the Stetind area, followed by a hike to the base.
