Stentretrieverillä

Stentretrieverillä is a term derived from Swedish, combining "stent" (stent) and "retriever" (retriever), and refers to a medical device used in endovascular procedures. Specifically, a stentretriever is a type of thrombectomy device employed to remove blood clots from blood vessels. These devices are typically deployed within a blocked artery, often in the brain following an ischemic stroke.

The retriever component of the device is designed to capture or entangle the thrombus. Once the clot is secured, the stentretriever is carefully withdrawn, pulling the retrieved clot out of the vessel. This mechanical reperfusion aims to restore blood flow to the affected area, thereby mitigating brain damage and improving patient outcomes after a stroke. Stentretrievers come in various designs, including mesh-like structures and corkscrew configurations, each with different mechanisms for capturing clots. Their use has significantly advanced the treatment of acute ischemic stroke, offering a less invasive alternative to certain surgical interventions.
