Starwood

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, commonly known as Starwood, was an American multinational hospitality company that owned, operated, and franchised a global portfolio of hotels and resorts. Its brands included Sheraton, Westin, St. Regis, W Hotels, The Luxury Collection, Le Méridien, Aloft, Four Points by Sheraton, and Element. The company operated on a worldwide scale, with a corporate headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, United States, prior to its merger.

In 2016, Marriott International completed its acquisition of Starwood for about $13 billion, creating the world's largest hotel company by rooms and revenue at the time. Following the merger, Starwood’s properties were integrated into Marriott’s operations. Starwood’s loyalty program, Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG), was merged with Marriott Rewards to form Marriott Bonvoy in 2019, marking the culmination of the program transition.

Today, Starwood no longer exists as an independent company. Its brands continue to operate under Marriott International, with properties retaining their Starwood heritage within Marriott’s portfolio. The Starwood name persists primarily as a historical reference to the former company and its brand lineage, rather than as a separate corporate entity.
