Sheraton is a brand of hotels and resorts operated by Marriott International. It began as the Sheraton Hotels and Inns chain, founded in 1937 by Ernest Henderson and Robert Moore in Springfield, Massachusetts, and it grew into a global network of full-service properties. The company became part of ITT Corporation's hospitality group in the mid-20th century. In 1998, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide acquired ITT Sheraton, expanding its portfolio of upscale hotels. In 2016, Marriott International completed its acquisition of Starwood, merging Sheraton into Marriott’s brand family and creating one of the world’s largest hotel companies.
