Standesamt
Standesamt is the civil registry office at the municipal level in Germany and, in a similar form, in other German-speaking countries. It is the public authority responsible for recording civil status events and for performing legally binding civil ceremonies. Its core tasks include registering births, marriages, and deaths; maintaining the corresponding civil registers; and issuing official documents such as birth certificates (Geburtsurkunde), marriage certificates (Heiratsurkunde), and death certificates (Sterbeurkunde).
