Stahldurchmesser

Stahldurchmesser is the German term for the diameter of a steel element, commonly used for bars, rods, wires, pipes and reinforcement (Bewehrung). It denotes the cross-sectional size across a circular steel section and is a primary geometric parameter for design, manufacturing and quality control. Typical units are millimeters for solid sections and millimeters or inches for pipes and tubes.

The Stahldurchmesser determines cross-sectional area (area = π·d^2/4), which directly influences axial strength, bending stiffness, mass per length and, for hollow sections, internal flow capacity.
