The word combines stabilization with disordered state, signaling an interest in preserving configurational diversity rather than a single crystalline arrangement.

The design of stabilizedis relies on configuring interactions to flatten the energy landscape or create high kinetic barriers that prevent rapid crystallization or phase separation. Approaches may include introducing competing interactions, geometric frustration, or external controls such as temperature, pressure, or applied fields to keep the system within a metastable regime. Potential applications are broad and include soft matter with tunable rheology, amorphous alloys with reversible properties, and materials for information storage or sensors that benefit from reversible, non-crystalline states.
