Stabilitásszabályozás

Stabilitásszabályozás, often translated as stability control or electronic stability control (ESC), is an electronic safety system designed to prevent loss of control of a vehicle. It works by detecting and reducing skids. When the system detects a loss of steering control, it automatically intervenes by applying brakes to individual wheels to help the driver steer the vehicle where they intend to go. In addition to braking, the system may also reduce engine power to help the driver regain control.

The primary goal of stabilitásszabályozás is to assist drivers in maintaining vehicle control during critical situations, such as sudden evasive maneuvers or driving on slippery surfaces. It is considered a crucial safety feature that significantly reduces the risk of single-vehicle accidents, particularly rollovers and loss-of-control crashes. Most modern vehicles are equipped with this technology as standard or optional equipment.

Stabilitásszabályozás systems typically utilize sensors to monitor wheel speed, steering angle, yaw rate (the rotational speed around the vertical axis), and lateral acceleration. The vehicle's onboard computer continuously analyzes data from these sensors. If a discrepancy is detected between the driver's intended direction (indicated by the steering wheel) and the vehicle's actual path, the system activates. It can selectively apply braking pressure to one or more wheels and, in some cases, reduce engine torque to stabilize the vehicle. The system operates independently of the driver, intervening only when necessary to prevent or correct a loss of control.
