Splitbedroom

Splitbedroom, also known as a split-bedroom plan, is a residential floor plan design in which two or more bedrooms are separated from each other by the home's common areas or located at opposite ends of the house. The arrangement is commonly used in single-story ranch houses and contemporary suburban designs to increase privacy for occupants.

In a typical splitbedroom layout, a private master suite is placed on one side of the home, while secondary bedrooms are on the opposite side. Shared bathrooms may be located between bedrooms, or an en-suite or nearby access is provided for the other rooms. A central living area, kitchen, and dining space connects the sleeping zones, with hallways regulating access.

Advantages include privacy, better noise separation, and flexibility for families with guests or multi-generational living. Disadvantages can include longer travel distances between bedrooms and common areas, potential underutilization of space, and higher construction costs for larger footprints or more exterior walls.

Design considerations cover site orientation, traffic flow, daylight, and accessibility. Variations range from a true split-bedroom plan (two bedrooms on opposite ends with a shared bath) to modified layouts that add a second master or guest suite on the opposite side, sometimes incorporating pocket doors or separate entrances.
