Sperrlogik

Sperrlogik (lock or blocking logic) is a term used in German-speaking contexts to describe the logic and mechanisms that impose a block on actions, states, or resources to prevent unsafe or undesirable conditions. It covers the rules, hardware, and software components that determine when access or progression is allowed and when it must be blocked.

In railway signaling, Sperrlogik is part of interlocking systems. The logic evaluates routes, signals, points and other devices to prevent conflicting movements. If a conflict or safety condition is present, the Sperrlogik blocks the affected signals or routes and only releases the lock when it is safe.

In industrial automation and machine safety, Sperrlogik is used in safety interlocks and guarding systems. For example, gates or doors may trigger Sperrlogik that prevents machine start until the area is safe. Redundancy and fail-safe design are common to ensure a locked state on fault.

In computing, Sperrlogik refers to the logic that controls resource locking and mutual exclusion. Locking mechanisms such as mutexes, semaphores, or transactional locks implement Sperrlogik to prevent data races, while attention is paid to avoid deadlocks.
