Spermatokeli

Spermatokeli, also known as spermatocoele, is a rare condition characterized by the presence of a fluid-filled sac within the scrotum. This sac is typically filled with a milky, white fluid that contains sperm and other seminal fluids. Spermatokeli is often asymptomatic and is usually discovered incidentally during a physical examination or imaging studies.

The exact cause of spermatokeli is not well understood, but it is believed to be related to the abnormal development of the epididymis, one of the testes. The condition is more commonly found in males with cryptorchidism, a condition where one or both testes fail to descend into the scrotum. Spermatokeli can also occur in males with normal testicular descent.

Diagnosis of spermatokeli is typically made through physical examination and imaging studies such as ultrasound. Treatment is usually not necessary unless the condition is causing symptoms or is associated with other abnormalities. In such cases, surgical intervention may be considered to remove the sac and address any underlying issues.

Spermatokeli is a benign condition and does not pose a significant risk to male fertility. However, it is important for individuals with spermatokeli to undergo regular follow-up with a healthcare provider to monitor for any changes or complications.
