In the imagined family, speechmennyei languages exhibit a strong link between prosody and discourse structure. Tonal contours and rhythm carry grammatical and pragmatic information, including evidentiality, stance, and topic structuring. Morphology tends to be agglutinative with clitic-like discourse markers; pronouns encode social distance and speaker stance, and finitary verbs mark evidentiality and commitment to asserted information. Word order is relatively flexible, allowing speakers to foreground focus or stance through intonation.

Phonology commonly features a rich vowel system with length contrasts, a set of consonants suited to rapid oratory, and a system of vowel harmony or vowel alternations tied to morpho-syntactic cues.
