Sozialformen are social forms in which learning takes place, describing with whom learners work and under what social conditions instruction occurs. They are a dimension of lesson design alongside content, methods, and media and influence how students interact, participate, and develop social and communicative skills.

Common Sozialformen include Einzelarbeit (individual work), Partnerarbeit (two learners), Gruppenarbeit/Kleingruppenarbeit (small groups), and Plenum/Frontalunterricht (whole-class instruction).
