Sonyeondan

Sonyeondan, literally translating to “boy scouts” in Korean, refers to Bangtan Sonyeondan (방탄소년단), a South Korean boy band formed by Big Hit Entertainment in 2013. The group consists of seven members: RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. The Korean name translates to “Bulletproof Boy Scouts,” a concept the group initially embraced; in 2017 they adopted the English branding Beyond The Scene (BTS) while continuing to use BTS as the primary name.

Formation and debut: BTS debuted in June 2013 with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool and the lead track No More Dream. Their early work fused hip hop with pop elements and quickly gained attention in South Korea before expanding globally.

Musical evolution and global reach: Over the following years BTS developed through successive albums and eras, including the Love Yourself and Map of the Soul series, producing hits such as DNA, Fake Love, and Boy With Luv. In 2020 they released Dynamite, a chart-topping English-language single, followed by Butter and Permission to Dance. The group has achieved substantial global popularity, breaking multiple chart records and building a large international fanbase.

Impact and recognition: BTS has received numerous awards and nominations on domestic and international stages, including Grammy nominations. They have also engaged in philanthropy, notably the UNICEF Love Myself campaign launched in 2017, aimed at promoting youth self-esteem and ending violence against children. Beyond music, BTS has become a prominent cultural force, contributing to the global spread of Korean pop culture and influencing contemporary pop music and media outreach.
