Sonatos
Sonatos are a type of musical composition typically written for a solo instrument or a small instrumental ensemble. The term "sonata" derives from the Italian word "sonare," meaning "to sound." Historically, the sonata form evolved significantly over centuries, with distinct periods and styles influencing its structure and character. Early sonatas, often referred to as sonate da chiesa (church sonatas) and sonate da camera (chamber sonatas), differed in their intended performance settings and musical qualities.
By the Classical era, the sonata, particularly the solo piano sonata, became a cornerstone of the repertoire.
