Efficiency indicates how effectively sunlight is converted to electricity. Real-world performance depends on irradiance, temperature, shading, and orientation; temperature coefficients describe power loss as temperature rises.

Standards, durability, and lifespan: Crystalline-silicon modules are tested to standards such as IEC 61215 for performance and IEC 61730 for safety, with additional certifications (for example UL or CE) in various regions. They are designed to withstand exposure to wind, hail, humidity, and UV radiation. Typical service life is about 25–30 years, with gradual power degradation over time.

Applications, installation, and maintenance: Modules are installed on rooftops or ground-mounted arrays, oriented to maximize sun exposure. Bypass diodes reduce shading losses, and an inverter converts DC to AC for use in electrical grids. Maintenance is usually minimal; occasional cleaning and monitoring of performance are common.
