Snålhet

Snålhet is a Swedish word that describes a personality trait characterized by extreme reluctance to spend money, often to the point of being perceived as stingy or miserly. It goes beyond mere frugality, which is the practice of being economical and avoiding waste, by implying an obsessive focus on saving money and a disinclination to part with it, even for essential needs or reasonable comforts.

The concept of snålhet can manifest in various ways. Individuals exhibiting this trait might avoid social engagements that involve expenses, meticulously count every penny, or actively seek out the cheapest possible options for goods and services, sometimes at the expense of quality or convenience. This behavior can extend to personal relationships, where a snål person might be hesitant to treat friends or family, or even to contribute their fair share in shared expenses.

While frugality is generally viewed positively as a responsible financial habit, snålhet often carries negative connotations.
