Snittvy

Snittvy is a term used in architecture, engineering, and product design to describe a section view of an object or structure. It is a drawing that represents the object as if it were cut by an imaginary plane, revealing interior features that are hidden in exterior or plan views. Snittvy helps convey how components fit together, how they are constructed, and how interior spaces or systems relate to one another.

The primary purpose of a snittvy is to communicate construction details, material composition, and assembly relationships. It is especially useful for showing interior elements such as walls, staircases, ducts, plumbing, structural members, and connections that cannot be seen from the outside. Section views are typically used alongside plans, elevations, and detail drawings to provide a complete understanding of the object.

Producing a snittvy involves selecting a cutting plane that passes through the features of interest. The plane is usually indicated on related drawings by a cutting line and arrows. In the section, the part of the object on the far side of the plane is removed conceptually to expose the interior. Materials are often shown with hatch patterns, and hidden features may be drawn with dashed lines. Dimensions, notes, and material specifications are added to clarify construction requirements.

Types of section views include full sections, half sections, offset sections, broken-out sections, and revolved sections. Each type serves different purposes depending on which components need to be shown and how much of the object must be represented.
