Smakspapillene

Smakspapillene, also known as taste papillae, are small, specialized structures located on the surface of the tongue that are responsible for taste perception. They are an essential component of the gustatory system, facilitating the detection of different taste qualities such as sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami.

There are several types of taste papillae, each with distinct structures and functions. The four main types are filiform, fungiform, circumvallate, and foliate papillae.
