Sluttplaten

Sluttplaten is a term used in Swedish and Norwegian to refer to an end plate, a flat plate that closes or caps the end of a component or assembly. In engineering contexts, sluttplaten serves as a structural and mounting element that helps define the end boundary of a part and provides a surface for fasteners or seals.

Common functions of a sluttplaten include closing the end of a tube, duct, or housing; distributing loads from fasteners or components mounted at the end; providing a backing surface for bearings, pulleys, or modules; and enabling sealing with gaskets or seals when the end must be closed to contain fluids, dust, or air. It may also serve as a reference surface for alignment and as a location for dowel pins or other locating features in assemblies such as tooling sets or machine frames.

Sluttplater are typically made from metal such as steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, though plastic versions exist for lightweight or cost-sensitive applications. They are usually machined or fabricated with holes, threaded inserts, or countersinks to accommodate fasteners, and may include a smooth finish or sealing surfaces. In tooling and die sets, the end plate acts as a rigid reference and mounting plane, helping to maintain alignment of upper and lower dies. Installation often involves precise tolerances and alignment features, such as dowel pins, to ensure repeatable positioning.
