Slideaggutinaatio

Slideaggutinaatio is a diagnostic technique used in microbiology and immunology. It is a form of agglutination reaction performed on a microscope slide. The test involves mixing a patient's serum, which may contain antibodies, with a known antigen preparation. If antibodies specific to the antigen are present in the serum, they will bind to the antigen particles, causing them to clump together. This clumping, or agglutination, is visible as visible aggregates on the slide. The principle relies on the formation of immune complexes where multiple antibodies bind to multiple antigens, creating a large, detectable precipitate. Slide agglutination tests are often used for rapid identification of bacteria, such as in the diagnosis of diseases like brucellosis or salmonellosis, by using specific bacterial antigens. They can also be used to determine blood groups, although this is more commonly done in tube agglutination tests. The presence and degree of agglutination are indicative of a positive reaction. The test is relatively quick and simple to perform, making it a valuable tool in a laboratory setting, especially for preliminary screening.
