Skuldafjármögnun
Skuldafjármögnun is the Icelandic term for debt financing, referring to the process of raising capital by borrowing to fund public or private activities. It includes issuing debt instruments such as government, municipal, or corporate bonds, bank loans, syndicated facilities, and project-finance structures. Debt financing differs from equity financing and from grants, as it creates a fixed obligation to repay principal plus interest and does not entail ownership dilution.
In public finance, Skuldafjármögnun is used to fund infrastructure, schools, health care, and other capital-intensive projects.
In corporate finance, debt financing supports expansion, acquisitions, or refinancing. Advantages include preserving ownership, potential tax-deductible
Governance typically involves the ministry of finance or equivalent public authorities, with oversight from central banks
