Skuggornas

Skuggornas, commonly translated as The Shadows, is a clandestine order in the fictional realm of Eldoria. It comprises scholars, tacticians, and emissaries who study light and darkness and regulate information flow while protecting artifacts and secrets that could destabilize societies if misused. The order operates across cities and remote sanctums, often under cover of night.

The order traces its roots to the aftermath of the War of Lumen in the early tenth century, when siblings Aelar and Lysra reportedly received visions of balance between light and shadow. They established a code and a network of houses called Veils, and since then Skuggornas has served as a discreet guardianship rather than a public guild.

Governed by the Dark Council, local chapters are led by Nightwardens and Veilwardens. Members advance from Initiate to Adept, Veilwarden, and Nightwarden, with the High Veil as a rarely invoked office. Training emphasizes observation, information security, and umbramancy—a discipline to cloak presence or reveal hidden truths. Rites occur at moonrise in private sanctums.

Skuggornas undertake intelligence gathering, artifact protection, and mediation between factions when secrecy is required. They generally refrain from outright interference, unless the balance is threatened or negotiations depend on discreet oversight. During the Dark Age their influence grew, then drew opposition from religious orders and mercantile houses; many legends credit them with crucial reconciliations and recoveries.

Today the order remains largely secretive; some chapters operate charitable fronts, others vanish into rumor. Notable figures linked to Skuggornas in chronicles include Lady Nyxa of the Gloam and Master Corvun, though evidence is sparse. In fiction and role-playing games, Skuggornas is a common backdrop for intrigue and guarded knowledge.
