Sklerodermassa

Sklerodermassa is a Finnish term that translates to scleroderma in English. Scleroderma is a group of autoimmune diseases that cause the skin to thicken and tighten. It can also affect internal organs. The word "scleroderma" comes from the Greek words "skleros" meaning hard and "derma" meaning skin.

There are two main types of scleroderma: localized scleroderma and systemic scleroderma. Localized scleroderma affects only the skin and sometimes the underlying tissues. Systemic scleroderma affects the entire body, including internal organs like the lungs, heart, kidneys, and digestive tract.

Skin manifestations often include hardening, thickening, and a waxy appearance. Currently, there is no cure for scleroderma. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing complications. This may involve medications to reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, or protect organs. Physical and occupational therapy can help maintain mobility and function. The prognosis for scleroderma varies greatly depending on the type and how severely it affects the internal organs.
