Skjæravbøyning

Skjæravbøyning, a Norwegian term, translates to "shear deflection" or "shear deformation" in English and refers to the deformation of a structural element caused by shear stress. This phenomenon is particularly relevant in the analysis of beams, plates, and shells, where loads applied perpendicular to the longitudinal axis induce shear forces. When a shear force acts on a material, it causes parallel planes within the material to slide past each other, resulting in a change in the angle between adjacent perpendicular lines.

In the context of beam theory, the shear deflection is a component of the total deflection, alongside bending deflection. For slender beams, bending deflection is usually dominant.
