Skaalumist is a traditional Inuit musical instrument primarily used in the Arctic regions of Canada, particularly among the Inuit people of Nunavut, Nunavik, and Nunatsiavut. The name "skaalumist" derives from the Inuktitut word "skaalumik," meaning "to sing," reflecting its role in communal singing and storytelling. It is a type of throat singing instrument, similar to the overtone singing techniques found in other cultures, but with distinct cultural and acoustic characteristics.

The skaalumist is typically crafted from a single piece of wood, often birch or spruce, and features a narrow, elongated shape with a flared mouthpiece. Players produce sound by blowing into the instrument while manipulating their vocal cords to create resonant overtones.
