Sixes

Sixes is the plural form of the number six and a term used in several domains to denote the event or object associated with the number six. The most common associations are cricket and dice games.

In cricket, a six is a scoring shot in which the batsman hits the ball into the boundary in the air without it touching the ground inside the field, earning six runs for the batting side. If the ball bounces before crossing the boundary, the shot is counted as four runs. Sixes are tracked as a performance metric, and players who frequently hit sixes are described as power hitters or sixers; teams sometimes advertise or celebrate high-sixes totals in limited-overs formats. The term can also be used adjectivally or nominally to refer to a batsman who specializes in hitting sixes, commonly called a sixer.

In dice-based games, a six is the highest face on a standard die. Rolling a six is often advantageous and may grant extra turns, bonuses, or other benefits, depending on the game rules. When two dice are used, rolling double sixes is a notable outcome in several games and may have its own special effect, such as triggering a bonus.

Outside of games, "sixes" can merely denote multiple occurrences of the number six or be encountered in phrases, such as idioms. The term is thus a versatile plural with specialized meanings in sports and gaming.
