Silithus

Silithus is a desert region in western Kalimdor in the world of Azeroth. It is the homeland of the silithid, a hive-minded insectoid species, and the ancient Qiraji. The landscape consists of sun-scorched sands, sandstone formations, and extensive underground hive systems that shelter their cities.

The principal hub for travelers is Cenarion Hold, an outpost controlled by the Cenarion Circle that provides access to questlines and transport to the neighboring ruins. Within Silithus lie two major ancient sites associated with the Qiraji: the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj and the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, commonly referred to as AQ20 and AQ40 respectively.

Historically, Silithus was the site of a long-standing invasion led by the Qiraji, backed by the Old God C'thun. The opening of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj during the late vanilla period released the two raid instances and dramatically changed the zone's dynamics. The region has since remained a focal point for ongoing conflicts between factions and for periodic world events and updates.

Creatures native to Silithus include the Silithid swarms and their Qiraji rulers, as well as various desert-dwelling fauna. The Twilight's Hammer cult also appears in the zone in certain storylines, exploiting silithid artifacts in their schemes.

Today Silithus continues to be a setting for both exploration and raiding, with its ancient ruins invoking lore about the Qiraji and C'thun and its role in Azerothian history.
