Silikonfluide

Silikonfluide, also known as silicone oils or polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS), are clear, odorless, synthetic liquids that are polymers of silicon and oxygen. Their unique chemical structure, featuring a silicon-oxygen backbone with methyl groups attached to the silicon atoms, grants them a remarkable set of properties. These properties include excellent thermal stability, a wide operating temperature range, low surface tension, high compressibility, and good dielectric properties. They are also highly resistant to oxidation, UV radiation, and many chemicals.

The versatility of silikonfluide leads to their widespread use across numerous industries. In the personal care sector, they are common ingredients in shampoos, conditioners, lotions, and cosmetics, providing slip, conditioning, and a smooth feel. Industrially, they serve as lubricants, hydraulic fluids, heat transfer fluids, and antifoaming agents. Their non-stick qualities make them valuable in mold release agents and as components in cookware coatings. Furthermore, their electrical insulating properties are utilized in transformers and electronic components. Silikonfluide are also employed in some medical applications due to their biocompatibility and inertness. Their varied molecular weights influence their viscosity, with lower molecular weight fluids being more fluid-like and higher molecular weight fluids exhibiting a more viscous, gel-like consistency.
