Silaan

Silaan is a fictional island nation located in the western ocean of the continent of Norea. It comprises seven main islands and numerous islets, with a varied coastline and inland highlands. The capital and largest city is Liora, situated on the central coast.

Silaan has a tropical monsoon climate, with a pronounced rainy season from May to October. The archipelago features coral reefs, mangrove forests, and endemic species. About one tenth of Silaan’s land and surrounding waters are protected. The official language is Silaani, with English commonly used in government and commerce.

Silaan’s history centers on coastal trade and seafaring communities. It was unified under a central authority in the 14th century and later transformed into a constitutional republic following a peaceful referendum in 1995. Today the government is a parliamentary system with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government.

The economy combines fisheries, coastal agriculture, and light manufacturing, with growing tourism and aquaculture. The population is around three million, with urban and rural communities dispersed across the islands. Education is compulsory through secondary level and literacy rates are high. Demographic groups include Silaani majorities and various immigrant communities, reflecting a long history of maritime contact.

Cultural life emphasizes seafaring traditions, crafts, and seafood cuisine. Annual events include the Ocean Festival and the Harvest Market. Notable sites include Mount Kralik, the Blue Gate, and the Silaan National Museum. Inter-island transport relies on ferries, a national road network, and a small international airport near Liora.
