Siittiötuotokset refers to the production of sperm cells, a fundamental aspect of male reproductive biology. This process, known as spermatogenesis, occurs within the seminiferous tubules of the testes. It is a continuous and highly regulated process that begins at puberty and continues throughout a man's life.

Spermatogenesis involves a series of cell divisions and transformations, starting from precursor cells called spermatogonia. These cells undergo mitosis to maintain their population and then differentiate into primary spermatocytes. Primary spermatocytes then undergo meiosis, a two-stage cell division process that reduces the chromosome number by half, resulting in haploid spermatids. These spermatids then mature into spermatozoa, the final mature sperm cells.

The entire process of spermatogenesis takes approximately 64 to 74 days. Hormonal control is crucial, with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) secreted by the pituitary gland playing key roles. FSH stimulates sperm production, while LH triggers the production of testosterone, which is essential for spermatogenesis and the development of secondary male sexual characteristics.

The resulting sperm cells are then stored and matured in the epididymis before being transported through the vas deferens during ejaculation.
