Sienitartunnat, often referred to as fungal infections, are illnesses caused by pathogenic fungi. These microorganisms are ubiquitous in the environment, found in soil, on plants, and even in homes. While many fungi are harmless or even beneficial, certain types can invade the body and cause disease. Fungal infections can affect various parts of the body, ranging from the skin and nails to internal organs.

The type of fungal infection depends on the specific fungus involved and the area of the body affected. Risk factors for developing fungal infections include a compromised immune system due to conditions like HIV/AIDS, cancer treatment, or organ transplantation. Prolonged use of antibiotics or corticosteroids can also disrupt the body's natural balance, making it more susceptible to fungal overgrowth. Diagnosis typically involves microscopic examination of samples, fungal cultures, or blood tests. Treatment varies depending on the severity and location of the infection, often involving oral or intravenous antifungal medications. Prevention strategies include maintaining good hygiene, avoiding prolonged exposure to damp environments, and managing underlying health conditions.
