Sidusrühad

Sidusrühad is a term used in Estonian to describe a condition characterized by pain or discomfort in the flanks, typically on one or both sides of the abdomen. This area corresponds to the posterior aspect of the trunk, located between the ribs and the ilium. The term itself is a compound of "külg" (side) and "rüha" (groin or flank), literally meaning side-groin or side-flank.

The causes of sidusrühad can be varied and often depend on the underlying medical condition. In many cases, it is associated with issues affecting the kidneys, such as kidney stones, kidney infections (pyelonephritis), or kidney inflammation. Pain in the flank area can also stem from problems with the ureters, the tubes that carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder. Musculoskeletal issues, like muscle strain in the back or abdominal muscles, can also manifest as sidusrühad. Other potential causes include gastrointestinal problems, gynecological conditions in women, or even referred pain from other parts of the body.

Diagnosis typically involves a medical history, physical examination, and potentially diagnostic tests like urine analysis, blood tests, ultrasound, or CT scans to identify the source of the pain. Treatment strategies are entirely dependent on the identified cause and may range from pain management and hydration to antibiotics, surgical intervention, or physical therapy.
