Sidospituutta

Sidospituutta, also known as *sido pitu* or *sido putu*, is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument primarily found in the island of Java. It belongs to the family of aerophones, specifically a type of bamboo flute, and is often used in gamelan ensembles, the classical musical tradition of Java and Bali.

The instrument typically consists of a single bamboo tube with a small hole on the side, which the player blows into to produce sound. The pitch is adjusted by covering or uncovering finger holes along the length of the tube. Sidospituutta is often paired with other bamboo flutes like the *suling* or *gambang*, contributing to the layered, melodic textures characteristic of gamelan music.

In Javanese culture, sidospituutta is associated with courtly and religious ceremonies, as well as folk performances. Its mellow, resonant tone adds depth to ensemble playing, often complementing the rhythmic patterns of percussion instruments like the *gendér* or *kendang*.
