Shoulderlaunched

shoulderlaunched refers to a method of operating certain types of portable weapons, primarily missiles or rockets, where the launch tube or launcher is held against the shoulder of the operator. This allows for a degree of stability and portability, enabling a single individual to deploy the weapon. The term is most commonly associated with shoulder-fired anti-tank missiles, also known as man-portable anti-tank systems or MANPATS.

These weapons typically consist of a disposable launch tube that houses the missile and its propulsion system. The operator aims the tube using a sighting system, often integrated into the launcher itself, and then fires the missile. Upon firing, a small rocket motor ignites to propel the missile out of the tube, and then a larger sustainer motor ignites to accelerate it towards the target. The operator remains stationary or moves only slightly during the firing sequence.

Shoulderlaunched weapons have been in service since the mid-20th century and have become a ubiquitous component of modern infantry arsenals. They provide infantry units with a significant anti-armor capability, allowing them to engage enemy tanks and other armored vehicles at considerable ranges.
